The downfall of social media
Yes nowadays social media is seen as a new platform for musician, industries, celebrities and more to create publicity or get exposure and more as public relation practitioner it is our job to make sure we get our product or clients recognised by its public or even more audience by advertising them on different social media platforms so that we can target different audience and attract them tour clients or products.

But when I read an article online on the music news website social media sometimes has its disadvantages according to the music news online published on the 19 April 2012 Rihanna ‘Lashed out in to the controversy surrounding the photos she posted of herself cutting up powder on a man’s head at the coahella festival ’ and apparently the picture also reached MTV base a music and general entertainment channel.

This raised questions to her fans that was it weed that she was cutting Read more.Sometimes celebrities write or post things that will later ruin the image, so I ask myself what is the use of using social media if the is a disadvantage to it or is it that we get into the habit of social media that we end up even writing or posting things that will later ruin our images and why post them knowing that you will later regret why you did post them.
From a Public Relations point of view I think we need to have to educate our clients about how they should use the social media because social media is a platform of their publicity and good branding for them.
oh yes that is why in PR we say there should be no "i am off record" so she was suppose to be rhianna even if she on a social network because it is very easy to pick up mistakes and make them go viral about the celebrities, while we do not care about what you did right
ReplyDeleteBig yes Pr need to educate people regard the important of public image and the impact of social media.
ReplyDeleteGuess she will learn from her mistake......Rihanna knew that she wasn't supposed to post this image.....She do know that being a celebrity is difficult and you always have to do things secretively, so she must face her consequences.
ReplyDeleteI would say Rihanna was seeking for attention and she got it.
ReplyDeleteMost of the people now adays takes the social medias as a place where they can post as unethical things lyk posting nude pictures and tings that are not acceptable and this is bad as they are not aware that these can come to their hound in future.
ReplyDeleteas prps we need to handle social media with alittle more respect share it or control it postman
ReplyDeletepublic Relation Practitioner are more like communication channels, if we dont eduate clients who will do that? We have all what it takes(experience and skills) about social media so now is time to share it with those in need for it.
ReplyDeletehope she learns from this ,not only her but everyone
ReplyDeletepeople tend to forget that what ever they post on social media reaches thousands of people within minutes.social media is a good platform for people to share information and have fun but some people now use it for rong reasons and forget that it will catch up with them, just like the Soweto boys who gang raped a teen from Soweto.
ReplyDeleteFor an organisational way or profetionals we see it as wrong to do what Rihanna has done but from a fame point of view i think that she actually think that its cool to post such things,However celebrities has to take the relationship that they are having with the public seriously by thinking first if what they are posting will be liked by their fans.
ReplyDeleteSocial Media plays a huge role to generating publicity for and brand, I mean, Social Media can tarnish people's image especially with what they posting on Social Media platforms...people need to be trained on what is important to post on Facebook, Twitter and so on...well said
ReplyDeleteSo as a prp what can you do to help people or celebrities not to ruin they images by using social media.
ReplyDelete@dineo i would suggest that they do not use social media to post or write what is not really relevent to the fans, customers or organistions and implement a social control for their social network meaning that i will check with them everything they podt or write
ReplyDelete@ pebetse i agree with you we should be careful when using social media @trot that why people should have PRP's because we really educate them and help them @molokwane most celebrites really do not care what they post but later refuse to take responsibility of what they did@hlabirwa yah she got it right@clive but sometime i wounder what if we have diffult client that really do not adapt to the education
ReplyDelete@SS Nqwaba i really dont understand why people ruin themselves with this social media@ moimane i agree with it might be cool but they are celebrities they got to remember that fans look up to them @ loyiso really they should be a training because looking at this issue is not only rihanna is a lot of people so
ReplyDeleteI think people tend to abuse social media, not using it for what it is for which is to socialise and share experiences with other people not to ruin their lives
ReplyDeletei agree with you but sometimes i think people get way to excited and really ruin their lives on social media
DeleteSome are addicted to social media in a way that they are not using it in a right manner..
ReplyDeleteYou have a good point there about us,as PR to make sure that Our brand is well established.Thank you for the advice
ReplyDeleteClients really need to be taught the right methods of using social media because they end up damaging their own reputations. I somehow think that celebrities create publicity or bad publicity rather to generate publicity and word of mouth about themselves. They think it's "cool" as mentioned by Moimane.
ReplyDeletereally what worries me is that the pulicity that they trying to generate sometimes can end their careers
Deleteeach and everything has its advantages and disadvantages, it depends on you as an individual on how you take it. social can ruin your image if your take it for granted and you'll end up loosing everything you have, just because of your silly posts and comments.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to think that as people we are aware that our social structure has changed, and as much as we could say things socially in a interpersonal context that may change other peoples perceptions about who we are, what we do etc i'd like to think that social networks are the same thing in a different format. So we would be naive to think that our social media is in our favour.
ReplyDeleteIt is not just the artist in question, of why she is behaving in such a manner, in her videos, the media or the production company needs to be responsible, as they are the ones transporting these visuals to the public.
ReplyDeleteyes i agree with you that even production campanies are to be blamed but with this article the source say she is the one who posted this visauls but i dnt get is why will she do tha to herself
Deleteit depends on you how you take it as an individual.
