Was it the technical issues or was it Ms Lauryn Hill?

The Cape Town Jazz Festival had their 13th festival on the 31 March 2012 in Cape Town at the famous kappies stage; they had a problem with one of the artist Ms Jill Scott who cancelled when the tickets were sold out but were able to manage to have her replacement which was Ms Lauryn hill. The Cape Town jazz festival promised the audience that the event was going to be a sensational show, but according to The Star newspaper on the 2 April 2012 her performance was so bad that audiences could'nt take it anymore and left early read more and even facebook and twitter was making bad comments that Ms Lauryn's performance was what they did not expert. I can’t imagine what the audience felled like having paid to come to listen to a bad performance, EspAfrica the company that organised the event was so unprofessional for blaming the technical equipment it was their job to make sure that they double check their sound equipment and everything for the event to run smoothly.

Was it because of the sound issue or was it because she was late and did not have to rehearse before the concert because according to the online Botswana gazette her band arrived early and tried to entertain the audience while she was on her way read more. Her performance ruined not only her image but the event organizers and the festival not to mention her disappointment to her fans because they are the reason she is famous.
Was it really right for Ms Lauryn hill to come to perform when she did not rehearse and was she ready when she was asked on the last minute to come perform on the biggest event ?
What a hectic event Ms Jill Scott need to face the music this was totally wrong, as for Ms Lauryn Hill should have rehearse more to fill the gap that was created my Ms Scott. Well this i sa poor planning a close follow up should have been done before can you image what negative image this make.
ReplyDeleteI think that she had the right to take the opportunity as an artist.Jill Scott was just unprofessional by being late for the event, however, he is not the only one to be blamed for the down fall of the event. From a PR point of view, every event planner has the right to double check if everything will run smoothly as planned.
ReplyDeletefrom the PR point of view the event planner was organised why did he or she double check if the event is going accordin to the plan... there what we call event checklist in PR I do not get it why such was not used
ReplyDelete@ all i think is because the departments where not communicating in order to form unity and correct agreement
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame?I dont get it if someone organises an event but does not use the correct method to make it successful. They needed a professional PR,not just anyone who can organise.
ReplyDeleteI feel sorry to those who bought teckets, firstly, according to what i read in the newspapers most of the perfomers didnt do well.they complained about sound system and technical problems which caused by lake of organising skills. they need to take into consideration the importance of PR in organising events like these.
ReplyDeleteorganising a event need proper consideration, becuase if anything goes wrong they look it you as what happen was tragic. sound ,late , all those issues are half better if is for free, what about those people who travel from distant to see the show and buy a ticket for unplannned event.
ReplyDeleteFor an event that always sells out every year the down fall of this festival was of laziness. If Lauryn Hill's performance was suppose to be great, then it was going to show in her performance that she prepared but the technicality let her down. As for the event the organiser was not proffessional, what he did was unforgiven because you do not let things fall apart like that and say it wasn't your fault.
ReplyDeletei donot reaaly blame laura hill bt the events organisers they should have aback up plan months ago
ReplyDeleteI think that artists should always be ready and i have to agree with clive that the event organisers should always have a back artists.
ReplyDeleteIts not Laura's mistake that the performance was a flop. It clearly shows that the event organizers weren't professionals enough and also shows a lack of communication, so this event was not organized properly
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, one can say that sometimes musicians get so confident about themslves and take their jobs less seriously - maybe she didn't do enough to prepare herself because she thought she's got what it takes! Just maybe!
Deletei think ms hill as well as her organizer had a poor communication problem thats why the organizer could not organise properly their sounds and i put all the blames on the organiser
ReplyDeletewhat a public relations disaster. where were the PRP's for Cape Town International Jazz festival? how was the event planned and organized? who were the organisers? sometimes when planning an event, we need to have plan 'B' or follow up if certain individuals who will perform or present a speech will be present or not. the public relations practitioners need to arrange a press conference to tell the public what exactly happened because i believe that it was short notice for Ms Lauryn hill to perform. the organizers should have skipped Ms Jill Scott's performance slot rather than jeopardising the event.
ReplyDeletethis is so embarrasing and sad to those who paid for a perfect show yet get an opposite. organisers should have had a back up plan and a crisis management plan incase things go the unexpectted way, that is what professional organisers do.
ReplyDeleteWhat an embarrasing moments to Ms Lauryn Hill......Was it too late for the organizers to get someone whom they know he/she can deliver and entertain the audiences? It feels so said to those who payed for the festival, having that mentality to enjoy and at the end neither one of them enjoyed the gig........
ReplyDeleteIt just goes to show that if an event is not well-organised, a lot can go wrong and yes this ruins the reputation of not only the organisation responsible but also of the artist.
ReplyDeletethis is really unfair to the people who payed a lot of money to get poor perfomance from such an artist. This should be a lesson learned from event organisers that they should get artists who are serious about their music.
ReplyDeleteSuch a talented lady, but I believe you should acknowledge when your time has passed. But carefull measure should have been applied to make the people happy but clearly steps were not taken accordingly.
ReplyDeletethe person who organised the event should have double checked if everything was on point.her mistake was being late.
