THE DISADVANTAGES OF SOCIAL MEDIA

The downfall of social media
Yes nowadays social media is seen as a new platform for musician, industries, celebrities and more to create publicity or get exposure and more as public relation practitioner it is our job to make sure we get our product or clients recognised by its public or even more audience by advertising them on different social media platforms so that we can target different audience and attract them tour clients or products.

But when I read an article online on the music news website social media sometimes has its disadvantages according to the music news online published on the 19 April 2012 Rihanna ‘Lashed out in to the controversy surrounding the photos she posted of herself cutting up powder on a man’s head at the coahella festival ’ and apparently the picture also reached MTV base  a music and general entertainment channel.

This raised questions  to her fans that was it weed that she was cutting  Read more.Sometimes celebrities write or post things that will later ruin the image, so I ask myself what is the use of using social media if the is a disadvantage to it or is it that we get into the habit of social media that we end up even writing or posting things that will later ruin our images and why post them knowing that you will later regret why you did post them.

From a Public Relations point of view I think we need to have to educate our clients about how they should use the social media because social media is a platform of their publicity and good branding for them.

LAURYN HILL'S FLOP PERFORMANCE

Was it the technical issues or was it Ms Lauryn Hill?

Source:yomzansi.com
The Cape Town Jazz Festival had their 13th festival on the 31 March 2012 in Cape Town at the famous kappies stage; they had a problem with one of the artist Ms Jill Scott who cancelled when the tickets were sold out but were able to manage to have her replacement which was Ms Lauryn hill. The Cape Town jazz festival promised the audience that the event was going to be a sensational show, but according to The Star newspaper on the 2 April 2012 her performance was so bad that audiences could'nt  take it anymore and left early read more and even facebook and twitter was making bad comments that Ms Lauryn's performance was what they did not expert. I can’t imagine what the audience felled like having paid to come to listen to a bad performance, EspAfrica the company that organised the event was so unprofessional for blaming the technical equipment it was their job to make sure that they double check their sound equipment and everything for the event to run smoothly.

Was it because of the sound issue or was it because she was late and did not have to rehearse before the concert because according to the online Botswana gazette her band arrived early and tried to entertain the audience while she was on her way read more. Her performance ruined not only her image but the event organizers and the festival not to mention her disappointment to her fans because they are the reason she is famous.

Was it really right for Ms Lauryn hill to come to perform when she did not rehearse and was she ready when she was asked on the last minute to come perform on the biggest event ?

the first week of the launch they reached about 20 000 cellphone downloads and 40 000 You Tube views of the song but the campaigns hopes to reach more than 100 000 downloads. According to the staff reporter who wrote this article the campaign has helped the Anonymous tip-off services since the launch of shout as the Police has arrested  2 650 criminals form murder to rape. The results of crime have been decreasing ever since and could increase if we work together and stop crime in our country.

The launch has launched a tracker for smartphone available at Android platform to help the police ,ambulance or fire departments to track the numbers that called them to make things easier for them to know where they are going.Acording to police deputy commissioner major general Sharon Jeptha said they also need help of  individuals to participate for campaign to succeed because working together we can achieve  more in preventing crime .read more

It is amazing how our musician can change and safe lives of many people in their country just by singing and being involved in campaigns, projects and being involved in community work  because most of   the people support campaign that have musicians this shows the music industries and musicians are one of the most influential and perceptual source to get people involved.
